welsh oak galls- hand-ground 25gms

oak gall nut powder contains lots of tannin and is made from oak apples or galls. it can be used as a mordant or on its own it achieves shades of cream-grey - or black when combined with iron. i carefully gather my oak galls from ancient woodland, after the tiny wasps have hatched. they are then stored to allow them to dry, so that any remaining wasps can hatch, before being finely ground by hand and packaged.
